Higher Ground Summit: Rising Above Left and Right - Leadership in Challenging Times
What It Is: An Equipping Conference for Christian Church, Business and Government Leaders
What You'll Receive: Tools and skills for effectively dealing with people of widely divergent views on contentious cultural topics in a way that invites relationship and positive dialogue.
Distinguished Speaker: Greg Koukl
Greg is a Christian apologist and radio talk show host. He founded Stand to Reason in 1993 and currently serves as its President. He has spoken on more than 70 college and university campuses both in the U.S. and abroad and has hosted his own call-in radio show for 27 years, advocating for “Christianity worth thinking about.” He has debated atheist Michael Shermer on national radio and Deepak Chopra on national television.
An award-winning writer and best-selling author, Greg has written seven books, including The Story of Reality—How the World Began, How It Ends, and Everything Important that Happens in Between; Tactics—A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions, and Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air. Greg has been featured on Focus on the Family radio and has been interviewed for CBN and the BBC. He's been quoted in Christianity Today, the U.S. News & World Report, and the L.A. Times.
Stand to Reason trains Christians to think more clearly about their faith and to make an even-handed, incisive, yet gracious defense for classical Christianity and classical Christian values in the public square. Stand to Reason teaches careful reasoning and well thought-out answers so that Christians will be able to participate in public discussions (at home, at work, or at the university) and present the Christian worldview in the debate. We encourage Christians to develop coherent answers to questions that challenge Christianity so that their faith is deepened and thereby are emboldened to share the Gospel in a gracious and compelling manner.
Greg received his Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at Talbot School of Theology, graduating with high honors, and his Masters in Christian Apologetics with honors from Simon Greenleaf University. He is an adjunct professor in Christian apologetics at Biola University.
Conference Background: We live in contentious and divided times. Political, social and cultural issues have polarized our region, state and country to an unprecedented extent. Emotions run high. Cancel Culture and personal attacks seem to be the order of the day. However, church, business, government and nonprofit leaders are on the front lines of culture. We can’t avoid addressing controversial issues. We must engage with people of varied and passionate viewpoints, in order to serve well and accomplish our mission. The Higher Ground Summit is designed to equip leaders with immediately applicable skills to engage in tough conversations with compassion, empathy and genuine curiosity. We’re in a season where people are primed to take offense and take combative, condemning and dismissive approaches. There is a better way, a place of Higher Ground. We must learn to speak with truth and grace, build bridges and invite healthy relationships without pandering or compromising our convictions...while not getting socially crushed. This is not easy. It demands an extremely high level of communication skill. Building that skill is what Higher Ground is all about. Click here for the Higher Ground Flier.
